Rumblestar - Abi Elphinstone
Casper Tock is an 11 year old who hates risks, is allergic to adventures and trembles at the mere thought of an unpredictable event.
So, an incredibly nasty shock comes to him when he accidentally stumbles into Rumblestar, which is an Unmapped Kingdom full of magical beasts and creatures.
From the moment he sets foot into this alternate world, all Casper wants to do is find a way home - but Rumblestar is in distress.
An extremely evil harpy named Morg is sending her followers (the Midnights), into the kingdom to wreak havoc and start forming a path for her to enter and steal the Unmapped kingdom's magic for herself.
But Casper cannot simply be oblivious to this situation - because the future of his own world (the Faraway) and that of Rumblestar and the other Unmapped kingdoms depends on someone putting a stop to Morg's plans.
And so, together with Utterly Thankless, a girl who is allergic to proper behaviour and hates rules, and her pocket dragon Arlo, Casper embarks on an adventure that is sure to be incredible.
Can Uttery, Casper and Arlo - the most unlikely of heroes become heroes none the less - save Rumblestar and the Faraway and stop Morg's nefarious Midnights?
About the Author:
Abi Elphinstone grew up in Scotland where she spent most of her childhood building dens, hiding in tree houses, and running wild across highland glens. After being coaxed out of her tree house, she studied English at Bristol University and then worked as a teacher in Africa, Berkshire and London. She is the author of the Dreamsnatcher trilogy and the Unmapped Chronicles, among other books for young readers, and the editor of the anthology Winter Magic.
When she's not writing, Abi volunteers for Beanstalk, teaches creative writing workshops in schools and travels the world looking for her next story.
What I thought of the book:
I thought that this book was absolutely phenomenal! I was hooked onto every word, and am now very exited to read the rest of the Unmapped Chronicles books.
I usually don't read much fantasy, but this book was definitely one of the best I have read from that genre.
I would recommend it to people who like fantasy adventure fiction and a gripping, thrilling book.
5/5 stars (I would give it more if I could!)
