The Bookshop Girl
This story is about an eleven year old girl, Property Jones (she is called Property because she was left in the lost property cupboard of a bookshop when she was five years old). For 6 years now, she has been living at The White Hart (the bookshop) with Netty and Michael, but she has a whopper of a secret that she has been hiding all this time - she can't read.
And then there is a newspaper article printed announcing the chance to win the Montgomery book emporium in a raffle, the biggest and most magnificent bookshop in the world!
When her family wins the raffle, they move in to the Emporium and Property deals with a lot of change from The White Hart.
But not all is as it seems at the Great Montgomery Book Emporium, and soon Property Jones finds herself in a whole lot of trouble.
This book is appropriate for ages 9-12.
The genre of "The Bookshop Girl" is fiction.
It also has some great illustrations.
I really love this book and would rate it 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
Comment on what you thought of the book below.
I read this and am really intrigued. What sort of trouble does she find herself in at the Emporium? Can you give us a hint without a "spoiler"? Some indication of the nature of the trouble?
ReplyDeleteAfter the Jones's win the Great Montgomery Book Emporium - there have a visit from Mr. Elliot Pink. He had sold Alfred Montgomery (the original owner of the Emporium) an original Shakespeare play, but the Jones's find it it is completely ruined by a glass of lemonade that was spilled on it once.
ReplyDeleteAfter that, they have to move out of the Emporium and the drama starts when Property realises that all is not as it seems and Elliot might be running a scam bigger than she thought possible.
Hope this answered your questions!
