The Mysterious Benedict Society - Trenton Lee Stewart

Reynard "Reynie" Muldoon doesn't think of himself as extraordinary, but instead weird and out of place, especially in his orphanage where he is constantly teased. One day, Reynie and his special tutor Ms. Perumal come across an advertisement while perusing the newspaper that reads : "ARE YOU A GIFTED CHILD LOOKING FOR SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES?"

And it happens to be that he is gifted and that means taking a series of tests. Odd, mysterious tests. Increasingly peculiar tests that go far beyond the classroom, or even the realm of normality.

By the end of these tests, Reynie has passed and so have three other rather remarkable children, his new teammates.

Sticky Washington is bit of a bookworm, and never forgets a single fact that he reads.

Kate Wetherall is quite athletic and carries her handy and trusty bucket everywhere she goes.

And Constance Contraire is very small, rude and stubborn.

Together, this group of children are recruited by Mr. Benedict to infiltrate the extremely prestigious Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened (LIVE) and discover what that devious school is planning.

And then our four heroes become spies and set out to save the world using their individual abilities.

What I thought of the book:

I had started reading this book a couple of years ago, but never finished it probably because I was too young to really enjoy and understand it at the time. A few days ago I decided that I should re-read it and give it another chance.

And I am so happy that I did! This book is amazing! I really loved it.

At times it can feel a bit dragging and slow, but getting to the end was totally worth it.

The genre of this book is adventure fiction.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
