The Wild Robot - Peter Brown

When robot Roz (or ROZZUM unit 7134) opens her eyes for the first time, she finds that she is all alone in the middle of a robot graveyard on a wild, incredibly remote island.

She has absolutely no idea how she got there or what her purpose is - but it doesn't take long for her to realise that she is in extreme need of shelter, - and allies.

Roz is not a robot built for the outdoors, but thanks to her programming she learns to adapt.

Initially, Roz is rejected by the island's animals. After a while, though, she adopts a gosling (Brightbill) she accidentally orphaned and together they grow, learn and become an incredibly important part of the community.

And when Roz's mysterious past returns to haunt her, it's her new friends and extended family that will stand by her and come to her aid.

This genre of this book is science fiction. It has a lot of heart and explores many important themes and topics.

The illustrations are beautiful and the choice of words is mesmerising.

A little bit about the author:

Peter Brown is an American writer and illustrator best known for his children's picture books. When he was a teenager he fell in love with writing and began telling his tales with words. After graduating from the Art Center Collage of Design, he found his calling as a children's author and illustrator and since then he has written and illustrated several books and earned various awards.

If you are interested in finding out what happens to Roz after "The Wild Robot" ends, you can read the sequel - "The Wild Robot Escapes".

I enjoyed reading both books tremendously and hope that you will like them as much as I did.
