Rebound - Kwame Alexander
This book is about 12 years old Charlie "Chuck" Bell and the events that occur when he stays at his grandparent's house for the summer.
Charlie Bell is still recovering and mourning the recent death of his father.
When he starts making bad choices and getting into trouble, his mother decides to send him to his grandparents home for the summer to "find his smile again", and she says that it will be good for him.
During his stay, his cousin Roxie introduces him to basketball, which becomes Charlie's whole world. He starts working towards becoming the ultimate player and legend. Basketball helps him sort out his feelings towards his best (girl) friend CJ, and other worries, and he finds something that he is really passionate about.
The sport, the advice he gets from his grandfather and Roxie, teaches him how to rebound - on and off the court.

What I thought of the book:
I loved this book!
I usually read books with girls at the front and centre, but I always like reading a book from a boy's perspective, and I think this is probably my favourite one.
I loved each and every character and could relate to most and them in various ways.
The writing was amazing and had some great sentences. It is one of the best books written in verse that I have read.
I loved the feelings portrayed in the book and how I connected with them.
I got a little confused at the end of the book, but I think that was only because I haven't read "The Crossover", which is about Charlie's sons.
Overall this was a great book, and I would recommend it to people who like reading books by Jacqueline Woodson, whose writing style in verse I found extremely similar to the author of "Rebound", Kwame Alexander.
This book was recommended to me by my cousin Krishna, who is also 11 years old and likes to read. Here is his review of the book:
Hello, my name is Krishna and this is my review of Kwame Alexander's book "Rebound".
In the last 6 months, I have read this book thrice and I've often wondered why I like it so much. One reason could be that the main protagonist was a young boy like me who unfortunately lost his father very early.
Besides that, I found the story very intriguing.
Charlie Bell is a young boy who has lost his father, he has no interest in basketball and played PAC-Man and Pinball and read comics all day. He really wanted a pair of shoes and even dreamt about them.
I like that the author added small comic strips about Charlie’s dreams.
When he got in trouble too many times his mother decided to send him to his grandparent's house. There he met his cousin Roxie, who introduced him to a whole new world: basketball. He also got himself a new nickname, Chuck. He worked very hard at the Boys and Girls Club to improve his game and he did. He also thought about how he missed his best (girl)friend, CJ and another friend of his, Skinny. When Skinny comes to Washington D.C where Charlie is staying, trouble comes knocking on his door again, again in the form of Skinny’s cousin, Ivan. Where things come to a head when he gets into unexpected trouble with the cops. How will Charlie rebound from this mess? Read the book to find out.
