The 1,000 Year Old Boy - Ross Welford

Alfie Monk is just like any 11-year-old boy - except that he's a thousand years old and can remember the last Viking invasion and most historical events that normal people learn about in school.

When he was 11 (a long long long time ago) he used one of the 2 remaining life pearls that he and his Mam owned. The life pearl turns you into a Neverdead - which means you become ageless (not immortal) and stay the same age at which you used it forever. His Mam is a Neverdead, so is his cat Biffa and his Da was also a Never dead.

So when tragedy strikes and everything in Alfie's world that he knows and loves is destroyed in a fire, Alfie has a hard time adjusting to the modern world.

When he finds his way to Aidan and Roxy (his neighbours), hope starts to enter Alfie and he embarks on an adventure of a lifetime.

To finally find acceptance, friendships that last, real birthdays, and altogether a different way to live... which means finding a way to make him start ageing and eventually die.

Unless someone else gets there before him...

"Living forever - it's not all it's cracked up to be"

About The Author:

He was born in Cullercoats, a small seaside town in the north east of England. (It appears in my book as 'Culvercot' - The 1,000 year old boy included!)

After university, he moved to London and became a journalist and then, after a few years, a television producer.

He worked on many well-known, and best-forgotten shows.

He began writing Time Travelling With A Hamster in 2014. It was published in January 2016.  His second book, What Not To Do If You Turn Invisible followed a year later.

He lives in London, England, with my family, tropical fish and border collie, Jess.  When not writing, he tours the UK and internationally talking to schools, libraries and festivals.

What I though of the book:

I loved this book!

I haven't been able to really get into a book lately and this one broke my slump - it was amazing and it didn't take long for me to start enjoying it.

The characters and their relationships are interesting and by the end of the book, you feel like you know them yourself.

It has a great story line and climax.

I would recommend this book to people who like stories about adventures and friendships.
