Reading Habits + Readabits Tag Mashup
I have done 3 book tags on this blog so far, and they are really fun! π€©π₯°
This is one that I’ve been wanting do for a while, and I think the questions are going to be really fun to answer.
This is a mashup of the Reading Habits Tag (created by TheBookJazz) and the Readahabits Tag (I couldn’t find the original video). They both are pretty similar so it makes sense to do it in one post.
Ok - on to the tag(s)! π
Reading Habits Tag:
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Kind of - I mostly read on my bed (like 80 something % of the time). I used to read a lot while eating (a meal), but unfortunately that was discontinued ππ© (hi Mama). I read almost everywhere in the house really! I have always wanted a special extra-comfy reading chair (but that’s not related to this question)…
2. Bookmark or just a random piece of paper?
Just a random anything! π I have a huge bookmark collection but most of the time I’m too lazy or too invested in the story to bother getting up to find one. So basically I use random scraps of paper, my phone, another book sometimes, headphones - anything! Though I do sometimes dog year my pages (guilty - but it works!) And when I’m reading on my phone or kindle then I don’t even need a bookmark.
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/certain amount of pages?
Mostly I can just stop reading (like 99% of time) unless the story is seriously gripping like I talked about in my review of the “Unadoptables” by Hana Tooke (you can search π for that review on the blog).
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
All the time! (Though I am very careful not to get it on the book)- though I do like when I spill some water on the book the texture and look the pages get (but I don’t do this intentionally, and if it’s any other beverage - no way!
5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
No way! I can sometimes multitask - eat, put away things etc. - but it does slow me down. As for the music and TV - I’ve tried. Sometimes I can zone out other sounds but I usually like mostly silence and don’t tend to read at public places or parties.
6. 1 book at a time or several at one?
I used to only read 1 at a time, finish it and move on to the next but (for some time now) I can read multiple books π at once (6 maximum - it has happened!). Having multiple books on the go gives me choice and since I’m a huge mood reader that really helps.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Mostly at home or in relatively quiet π€« places. I said in answer 5 - can’t do parties π or public places if they are noisy.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
Definitely silently in my head. I like reading aloud sometimes but then it’s just the sound of my voice instead of when I’m reading silently in my head (which is literally 100% of the time). And in the now extremely unlikely situation where I am read to - it is way too slow for me and I keep correcting the person who is doing the reading out loud.
9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
I don’t do this. I will admit, there has been a book (The Lost Hero - by Rick Riordan) where before reading I skimmed through the pages looking for mentions of a particular goddess and I also pretty much skipped a couple of pages when it reached a character’s POV that I didn’t like. π€π€«π
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Keeping it like new.
11. Do you write in your books?
No. In school, every year there a book we had to annotate and I have done that for some of my own - but never writing directly on the pages, just on sticky notes.
Ok, moving on to the Readahabits tag…
1. When do you find yourself reading? Morning, afternoon, evening, whenever you get the chance or all the time?
A mixture of whenever I get the chance and all the time.
2. What is your best setting to read in?
Somewhere comfortable and cozy. I might do a blog post on this question!
3. What do you do first - Read or Watch?
Read first. I have watched a bunch of adaptations but I always find the book to be better. Like little women for example (both the 1994 one and the 2019 one)
4. What form do you prefer? Audiobook, E-book or physical book?
Anything as long as I get to read I guess! I have a Kindle where I do a lot of my reading and download books from zlibrary. I definitely prefer physical books, but its not that practical. I have never tried an audiobook except for one time and I didn't enjoy it too much and it was a bit too slow for me.
5. Do you have a unique habit when you read?
I don't think so, or else I haven't noticed.
6. Do book series have to match?
I don't have many complete series - but YES.
