Measuring Up - Lily LaMotte and Ann Xu

12-year-old Cici has lived in Taiwan all her life and now suddenly her parents are moving to Seattle in America and it is breaking Cici’s heart that she will have to leave A-ma (her grandmother) behind.

When Cici spots a flier for a kids cooking competition with a big cash prize she gets an idea to enrol and try to win because with the money she can buy a plane ticket for her grandmother to come to America for her 70th birthday.

The book then follows Cici trying to win the competition, making new friends, and cooking some delicious food.

My thoughts about the book:
This book is a graphic novel and was extremely fast so I don't have too many in-depth thoughts about it.

I really loved the art style.

I don’t have any comments about the writing, since it was pretty normal and because there wasn’t that much text.

The cooking competition parts reminded me of Masterchef - which I am a big fan so I really enjoyed it.

It was extremely fast-paced, I finished it in one sitting.

I really enjoyed it and would definitely re-read it. It is an incredibly high four-star rating but it didn’t quite give me those five star feels even though I loved it and it was so wholesome.

The ending left me wanting more, so I kind of wish this was a series (sadly it isn’t) or that it was longer so I didn’t really like the way it wrapped up.

I would highly recommend this book! If you like art, cooking (because the food pages made my mouth water), self-discovery and just really wholesome reads - you will love this book.
