Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends. Every autumn, they work together at a pumpkin patch. This book is about their last day working at the patch since they are graduating and going off to college, and they set out to do all their favourite things and make it the best night.

About the Author:

Rainbow Rowell writes about all kinds of stuff. Her books include - Attachments, Landline, Eleanor & Park, Fangirl, and the Simon Snow trilogy. Recently she's been writing comics and her first graphic novel (Pumpkinheads), and the monthly Runaways comic for Marvel. She lives in Omaha, Nebraska.

About the Illustrator:

Faith Erin Hicks is a writer and artist living in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her published works include The Adventures of Superhero Girl, Friends with Boys, The Nameless City trilogy, Pumpkinheads (with Rainbow Rowell), One Year at Ellsmere, and the young adult novel Comics Will Break Your Heart. She has won two Eisner Awards, and Pumpkinheads was a New York Times bestseller.

What I thought of the book:

This book was really fun, and I laughed out loud multiple times.

We don't have autumn here, so I was obsessed with all the fall food and activities that Deja and Josiah eat/do.

This book was nothing special - but the atmosphere and art are top-notch and I loved those elements. Overall, the story is pretty flat and doesn't really pop out. The ending did surprise me though. Though maybe it would have been better as a full novel.

PROS: Amazing fall atmosphere, mouthwatering food, great art

CONS: Overall slightly boring storyline

Would recommend to- People who want atmosphere, not great storylines.
