The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther

Meredith Fox has been going to Martha's Vineyard for the summer for as long as she can remember. This book follows Meredith during her first summer at the vineyard after her sister's death, to attend her cousin's wedding.

Overwhelmed with emotions (and reeling from her recent unexpected breakup), she is grateful for the perfect distraction that is Assassin - which is basically a giant water fight where people try to eliminate their target, which is taking place during the week of the wedding festivities. With the game being a family tradition, Meredith is determined to win and do her sister proud.

On top of that, she also makes an alliance with a cute groomsman which may or may not put her heart on the line and has to reconcile with some old friends and heal from the loss of her sister.

About the Author:

K.L. Walther was born and raised in the rolling hills of Bucks County, Pennsylvania surrounded by family, dogs, and books. Her childhood was spent traveling the northeastern seaboard to play ice hockey. She attended a boarding school in New Jersey and went on to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia. She is happiest on the beach with a book, cheering for the New York Rangers, or enjoying a rom-com while digging into a big bowl of popcorn and M&M's.

What I thought of the book:

I absolutely love this book! A new favourite - 5 stars, it was so good!

I fell in love with all the characters - I especially enjoyed the Fox family's characters and dynamics. Meredith was the greatest main character - tough, smart, and sweet and I really identified and sympathized with her. I really liked Wit (the groomsman) as a character, and thought he was pretty great - and I loved Meredith's relationship with him. I also loved all the side characters and friendships we got to see!

One of my absolute favourite things about this book was the atmosphere - I absolutely loved the descriptions of the food, the scenery, and the farmhouses. The Vineyard was an amazing setting to read about, and the overall vibes of the book were immaculate.

I also really want to play Assassin now ðŸ˜‚! I loved the intrigue it added to the book.

I also really enjoyed all the Taylor Swift references 😂😄

The moment I finished it I immediately wanted to read it again so I will definitely be re-reading it in the near future :)

This book was surprisingly funny, and I laughed multiple times. It was also incredibly fast-paced and I could not put it down.

Overall, an amazing summery book with amazing characters, an amazing setting, and a sequence of events that will keep you hooked!
