Hi!

Welcome to a wrap-up of some books I've read recently :)

(4 Graphic Novels + 2 Mystery-Thrillers)

Note: please look up trigger warnings for all these books to make sure you're in the right headspace for them <3

Sadie by Courtney Summers

Following a missing girl out for revenge for the murder of her younger sister while the host of a podcast follows the clues she leaves behind to bring her back home - Sadie is one of the most gripping books I have read in a long time. It is told in alternative POV between a true crime style podcast documenting events and then Sadie narrating alongside it. I would say more but I honestly think it's best to go into this book blind (or as much as possible) because all you really need to know is the basic structure of the story to avoid spoilers.

This was absolutely incredible - the slow-burn pacing (which I have found I tend to enjoy in thrillers) was immaculate and Sadie is one of the most interesting characters I have ever read about.

Pick this up if you're looking for a mystery that will consume you and a powerful female main character.

My rating: 4 stars

Lies Like Wildfire by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez

Lies Like Wildfire follows a group of five friends whose plans to relax on their last summer vacation together before college, go awry when the deadly secret of a massive wildfire binds them all together.

This was...interesting. I enjoyed how fast-paced it was and the format - I kept wanting to know what was going to happen. (I am glad I read it) However, I absolutely despised the main character as well as the ending (I don't think the way any other book has wrapped up has angered me more).

That being said I would recommend it to someone looking to get out of a reading slump simply for the fact that it was so easy to read - I hope you enjoy it more than I did!

My rating: 3.5 stars

Heartstopper: Volume 4 by Alice Oseman

Heartstopper is an adorable graphic novel series following the relationship between Nick and Charlie.

This is definitely the most emotional volume so far - the representation for LGBTQIA+ characters and mental health is amazing. I love all of the characters in this series so much and the friendships with the side-characters on top of the relationship makes it even better.

I would definitely recommend this series if you're looking for a quick palate cleanser with incredible characters which is very comforting!

My rating: 5 stars

Invisible Emmie by Terri Libenson

Following the story of two completely different girls - shy, artistic Emmie and popular, athletic Katie, Invisible Emmie is about a day when their lives unexpectedly begin to intertwine.

It's almost become a tradition for me to read this book before the 1st day of school. You cannot help but root for Emmie and it's funny, relatable and incredibly quick to read.

My rating: 3 stars

Real Friends by Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham

Real Friends, an autobiographical graphic novel, is a realistic, moving depiction of the roller coaster that is middle school friendships and how affirming it can be to find true friends.

This was heartbreaking, and somehow super sweet at the same time.

My rating: 3 stars

Awkward by Svetlana Chmakova

This book follows Peppi who feels terrible about an interaction with a boy in her grade, as she tackles a rivalry between the Art and the Science Club.

I have wanted to read this for so long and as with all of her works, I love Svetlana Chmakova's art style. The friendship that blossoms between Peppe and Jaime is really sweet and the plotline with the clubs was really fun.

My rating: 3 stars

Thankyou so much for reading this if you got this far :) and Happy Reading 📚💖
