Wintery Book Recomendations

Hello and Seasons Greetings!

This post is a list of books that give wintery and Christmassy vibes and that are perfect for this time of year.

Disclaimer: I have not read some of these books but have seen good reviews of them, I am really looking forward to the ones I haven't read yet and hopefully will get to some of them this holiday season! Also, since I haven't read most of these books, I have taken lines from their Goodreads summaries online.

1.  A Boy Called Christmas - by Matt Haig

This book is about Nikolas, who lives with his father. One year, when his father goes on an expedition and leaves Nikolas to stay with his wicked aunt. Nikolas is miserable and leaves his aunt to find his father. He meets all kinds of magical (and adorable) creatures along the way and has a great adventure filled with snow, elves and believing in magic.

I really like this book, and it has nice illustrations throughout it as well. I think that people of a slightly younger age group (8-10) would enjoy this.

And if you like this book there are two sequels as well (The Girl who Saved Christmas, and Father Christmas and Me).

2. The Castle of Tangled Magic - by Sophie Anderson

You're in Russia, there's a chill in the air, and a secret world hidden in the walls of an enchanted castle...

This book is about Olia, who lives in an ancient castle in Russia with her family. The castle is magical and has many secrets, all of which Olia is determined to uncover. When a storm rocks the castle, it's up to Olia to find out why a world bigger than her own is in danger, and when she steps into a magical new world, it's up to her to save everyone in it.

The atmosphere in this book overall is amazing and I really enjoyed it when I read it.

3. Mistletoe and Murder - by Robin Stevens

Daisy and Hazel are spending the Christmas holidays in snowy Cambridge. Hazel has high hopes of its beautiful spires, cosy libraries, and inviting tea rooms, but there is danger lurking in the dark stairwells of this ancient college. Two days before Christmas there is a terrible accident - or at least there appears to have been a terrible accident until the detective society looks a little closer and realizes a murder has taken place. Faced with several irritating grown-ups and fierce competition from a rival detective agency, they must use their wits and courage to find the killer - and all before Christmas day!

This book is supposed to give a great look at a big British Christmas in the 1930s.

This is part of a series (I started the 1st book but got a little spooked so stopped halfway. But I absolutely LOVED what I did manage to read and the atmosphere is amazing), but you can read them out of order. So to read this one you don't need to necessarily have read the rest of the books in the series preceding this. The first book is called 'Murder Most Unladylike'.

4. Winter Magic - edited and compiled by Abi Elphinstone (anthology)

A collection of short wintery stories filled with magic.

Authors: Michelle Magorian, Geraldine McCaughrean, Jamila Gavin, Berlie Doherty, Katherine Woodfine, Piers Torday, Lauren St. John, Amy Alward, Michelle Harrison, Emma Carrol, and Abi Elphinstone.

I have not read this, but you can find my reviews for books from 2 of the authors that have contributed here (spoiler: I loved both!) :

A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison: https://keyalovesbooks.blogspot.com/2021/04/a-pinch-of-magic-michelle-harrison.html

Rumblestar by Abi Elphinstone: https://keyalovesbooks.blogspot.com/2021/02/rumblestar-abi-elphinsone.html

5. Greenglass House - by Kate Milford

Milo is excited that it's Christmas break. Not only does he get school off, but he lives at the Greenglass House - an inn where it's very quiet over Christmas and the holiday season. That's why it's highly unusual why a whole load of strangers would check-in when it's supposed to be dead. Then, things start to go missing, and stories about the Greenglass House and its history begin to circulate. There's a mystery afoot and it's going to take Milo to some unexpected places.

This book is supposed to have a brilliant cozy atmosphere (filled with hot chocolate) and lots of festive holiday season vibes.

Buy the book: https://www.amazon.in/Greenglass-House-Kate-Milford/dp/054454028X/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=greenglass+house&qid=1637666531&sr=8-1

And with that, we come to the end of this (pretty short - apologies!) list. I hope that after this holiday season I can make a much longer list next time with more books I have read on it (I have read the first 2 here).

I hope that you found at least one book that you would like to read here, and if you have any recommendations for me and other people who will read this please comment them below! (In case you don't a recommendation - put a wintery emoji!)

I hope that you have a very merry Christmas and a happy holiday season!

Happy Reading!
