The Best Books of 2021 (in no particular order)

The time has come...here are my favourite books of 2021! Eep 😆!

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

Brown Girl Dreaming is a beautifully written memoir in verse about the author as a young girl finding her voice and her place in the world.

I love this book so much - it is absolutely perfect and I will continue to recommend it till the end of time.

Starfish by Lisa Fipps

Also written in verse, this book is about Ellie who is tired of being fat-shamed and decides to do something about it.

This book is heartbreaking and poignant - it left me speechless. I still think about it to this day and love it to bits.

The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant

This book follows Cordelia Hatmaker whose family are hatmakers who weave magic and enchantments into every hat they make. But Making is a special, rare, and ancient skill and only a few Making families remain. When Cordelia's father goes missing at sea and someone seems to be using the fast depleting Maker magic to start a war...it's up to Cordelia to save everything.

I am so obsessed with this book! It was magical, amazingly well written, and overall FANTASTIC! (Also, the illustrations and the hardback are gorgeous :D

All the Impossible Things by Lindsay Lackey

All the Impossible Things is about Red, a magical girl who tries to navigate the foster care system in search of herself and where she belongs.

I read this book right at the beginning of the year so I don't remember much about it - I do remember, though, that this book destroyed me and I loved it.

A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison

A Pinch of Magic follows 3 sisters - Betty, Charlie, and Fliss, who go on a quest to break the curse that's haunted their family for generations.

This book is outstanding - the atmosphere is impeccable, the sisters are so great and I was totally sucked into the world.

The Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell

This book is the story of a boy Wizard and a girl Warrior who have grown up each being taught to hate the other, and the gripping adventure they go on when their worlds collide.

The writing in this book is fantastic, the dark atmosphere is unmatched, and it is completely addicting.

The Unadoptables by Hana Tooke

A story about five orphan best friends on the run, in search of a true home.

The writing in this book is great, the illustrations are gorgeous, it is engaging and the plot blew my mind.

Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow by Benjamin Dean

Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow is about Archie Albright, whose parents are acting weird. When he finds a flier for Pride in his father's pocket - Archie goes on a magical journey to find his end of the rainbow.

This book is a big bundle of joy and I could not recommend it more.

The Strangeworlds Travel Agency by L.D. Lapinski

The Strangeworlds Travel Agency follows Flick, who stumbles upon a travel agency run by a young man called Jonathan, whose job is to manage and oversee many different magical suitcases that you step into to visit other worlds in the multiverse. As the magic that powers the multiverse starts malfunctioning - Flick and Jonathan go on a great adventure together.

I loved this book so much - the atmosphere in each of the worlds, the adventure, and the friendship between Flick and Jonathon were all amazing.
